MODERN
FARMHOUSE

After exploring options for renovating the existing structure while considering the budget, it made more economic sense to tear down the existing structure and start fresh so we could deliver a house that our clients truly loved. The former house had endured several remodels over the years which left it disjointed with a mash-up of surfaces that were not cohesive. Our client's directive was a house that wasn’t too big, they didn’t want excess square footage and they wanted something that leaned toward farmhouse style. So we created our version of the modern farmhouse - an open-plan house with character, charm, and drama. We used reclaimed decorative beams, rich, dark, hand-scraped hardwoods, and just a splash of shiplap. We layered in the more modern elements - glass railings, a dramatic catwalk that overlooks the kitchen and dining room below, and a show-stopping hot-rolled blackened steel fireplace to give this farmhouse a little edge. We flooded the house with natural light and captured the water view with large floor to ceiling windows. Statement lighting and wallpaper throughout the house echoed the personality and style of the family and gave the house its own unique identity. The exterior stonework combined with the black and white board and batten set the stage for the interior story. The result is a farmhouse, unlike any other and one that is uniquely our clients’ sanctuary.
