We are looking for an experienced Senior Interior Designer with a strong focus on FF&E to join our team.

This is not a drafting or architectural production position. We are looking for an accomplished designer with an exceptional eye, extensive experience in high-end residential interiors, and the confidence to take ownership of the FF&E design process.

 

We are a small, highly collaborative studio. Great ideas can come from anyone, but at the senior level we expect you to bring them. We want someone who is excited to contribute creatively, introduce us to new products and vendors, challenge ideas when appropriate, and help continue to evolve the Vanillawood aesthetic.

What You'll Do

• Lead FF&E design for high-end custom residential projects from initial concept through final installation

• Develop cohesive furniture, lighting, textile, art, accessory and decorative concepts that complement the architecture and interior finishes of each project

• Source furniture, lighting, rugs, textiles, window treatments, art, accessories and other decorative elements

• Create thoughtful, layered spaces that feel collected and individual rather than formulaic

• Develop furniture plans and room-by-room FF&E selections

• Prepare and present design concepts, material palettes, imagery and product selections to clients

• Work directly with clients to understand how they live and translate that into beautiful, functional interiors

• Source through established showrooms, manufacturers, trade vendors, galleries, craftspeople and independent makers

• Bring new vendors, products, artists and resources to the studio

• Coordinate with vendors regarding pricing, lead times, availability, customization and specifications

• Develop FF&E budgets and work within established project budgets

• Collaborate closely with Vanillawood's architectural and interior design teams so furnishings feel fully integrated with the overall design

• Coordinate with our team through purchasing, expediting, receiving and installation

• Participate in styling and final installation of completed projects

• Maintain strong vendor and trade relationships

 

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for more than someone who can select attractive furniture. We want a strong designer with a sophisticated point of view who understands scale, proportion, color, texture and composition and knows how to put together an entire home.

The right person will have

• Approximately 7+ years of professional interior design experience, preferably with significant experience in luxury or high-end custom residential design

• A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional FF&E work on completed residential projects

• Excellent knowledge of the high-end residential furniture, lighting, textile and accessory market

• Established familiarity with trade vendors, showrooms and manufacturers

• Experience designing and furnishing complete custom homes and substantial residential projects

• A sophisticated understanding of furniture planning, scale, proportion, color, materials and layering

• The ability to move comfortably between different aesthetics while maintaining a strong design point of view

• Confidence presenting ideas and selections directly to discerning clients

• Experience developing and managing FF&E budgets

• Strong organizational skills and an understanding of the procurement process, lead times and installations

• The ability to work independently while also thriving in a highly collaborative studio

• Curiosity about what's new in design and an enthusiasm for continually discovering new products, makers and resources

• Strong attention to detail and follow-through

A degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or a related field is preferred, but talent, experience and portfolio are more important to us than credentials.

 

CAD or Revit experience is not required for this position.

What Makes This Role Different

Vanillawood is both the designer and builder on many of our projects. Our interiors team works alongside the people designing and constructing the home rather than stepping in after the architecture is complete.

​

That creates an opportunity for FF&E to be considered as part of the overall design from the beginning.

​

We're also a small studio without layers of hierarchy. Senior designers have a meaningful voice in the work, and we expect everyone on the team to contribute ideas. We're looking for someone who wants to influence the creative direction of projects rather than simply execute a predetermined look.

Job Pay: $45-$55 / hr depending on experience
